TOWN OF WALLKILL – A large 18-wheel trash-hauling truck caught fire while on Route 17 in the Town of Wallkill and had to dump its load in the nearby Walmart parking lot.
State Police spotted the fire, alerted the driver and had him exit onto Route 211 where the load was dumped in a parking lot so that Silver Lake firefighters could extinguish it.
A large construction vehicle was brought in to scoop up the trash once the fire was out and a street sweeper cleaned up what was left on the pavement.
There were injuries reported.
