POUGHKEEPSIE – Police are investigating the shooting of a man in the vicinity of Smith and DuBois Streets that occurred Sunday afternoon. The police responded to several reports of multiple gunshots fired at approximately 1:41 pm.
Arriving officers located a man who had sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and right leg. Rather than wait for an ambulance, officers transported the victim to a local hospital, while other officers sec
ured the crime scene.
More than 20 shell casings were located on the pavement of Smith Street between DuBois and Cottage Streets. Officers, with the assistance of a Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputy, closed Smith Street in both directions as the investigation continued.
Police Captain Rich Wilson told Mid Hudson News that the victim’s wounds do not appear to be life-threatening. Detectives and crime scene technicians were continuing to process the scene late Sunday afternoon.
Sources indicate that the victim is not cooperating with the investigation.
