MONTICELLO – Billing errors on the part of the Sullivan County government have resulted in the county being overpaid more than $601,000 in Medicaid funds from the federal government.

The county legislature on Thursday voted to pay back the money over time.

Legislature Chairman Rob Doherty was tight-lipped as to how the errors occurred leading to the overpayments.

“It was incurred over a four-year period; I don’t have the exact payment schedule, but I think it is a four-year deal,” he said.

An audit reported the billing errors to the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General in January 2019. A negotiated settlement of the overpayment errors consists of $259,820.

An additional amount of $341,715 is for overpayments directly from Medicaid.
