ALBANY – The COVID-19 vaccine is gradually becoming more available, but it is still difficult to get on a list to get your shots.

State Senator Michelle Hinchey (D, Saugerties) has introduced legislation requiring all counties to have state-operated vaccination sites to provide equity to all residents.

“What we are seeing in our communities, and especially in the 46th District, is a lot of the state-run vaccination sites have been set up in high-density areas, in more urban areas, leaving behind many of our rural communities, leaving people to have to drive upwards of 60-plus miles to get to the closest state-run vaccine site,” she said.

The measure, if adopted, would allow counties to opt-out if they so choose.
