Pets rescued from Middletown fire

MIDDLETOWN – Fire in a residence at 78 Watkins Avenue in the City of Middletown Tuesday evening likely started in the basement shortly after 8:30, firefighters on the scene said.

The cause of the fire that poured thick smoke into the nighttime sky is unknown.

At least one person was hurt; there were no injuries to firefighters.

Police rescued some pets including a couple of dogs and what appeared to be a hamster.
