NEWBURGH – Hundreds of jobs are opening up along the Route 17K corridor west of the City of Newburgh and the administration wants to make them available to their residents.

While the economy of the city is slowly growing, the big job spurts are outside the city limits with a new BJ’s wholesale store just opened and a mammoth Amazon distribution center under construction.

Mayor Torrance Harvey said transportation is a key component to helping those city residents get to those jobs.

“There are a lot of employment opportunities in that 17K corridor going west of the city. That public transportation piece is very crucial,” he said.

The city has been talking with Orange County officials exploring ways of improving public transportation for city residents to jobs outside city limits.
