VILLAGE OF PAWLING – Mayor Rob Liffland, currently under investigation by a law firm hired by the village board, has submitted his resignation effective December 31, due to health reasons.

Mayor Liffland’s wife Kelly read the resignation letter at this past Monday’s village board meeting saying that her husband has “really loved what he has done for the last 25 years,” and indicated that his health conditions prevent him from performing the duties of mayor.
The village board recently authorized an investigation into Liffland after learning that he spent upwards of $17,000 of village funds to extend a water line to a property owned by a developer for whom he does work.  Mayor Liffland owns Fountain Plumbing & Heating in Pawling.  The money was spent without authorization from the village board.
Former Mayor Glenn Carey said, “I’m sorry to learn of Rob’s health issues. I am sure the decision to step down as mayor was not an easy one.  He gave over 25 years of service to the village and I wish him the best.”
Mayor Liffland did not return a call seeking comment.
