HIGHLAND FALLS – The water sources for the Village of Highland Falls stand at 43 percent of capacity and Mayor Joseph D’Onofrio has called for voluntary restrictions on water usage.

The mayor said conditions have gotten a little better as recently the levels were in the high 30s percent.

“Last year we had no snow, very, very hot summer, no rain, which has given us this problem,” he said. “Short term, I have several suggestions, the easiest one would be with West Point allowing us X amount of gallons per day on the days that we need it.”

D’Onofrio is hoping that Wednesday’s anticipate rains will raise their water levels.

The system feeds the Village of Highland Falls and Fort Montgomery.
