ALBANY – Governor Cuomo has announced a new initiative to put a lid on COVID-19 hotspots including those in Rockland and Orange counties.
The initiative includes the components – take dramatic action within the cluster; take action in the area surrounding the cluster to stop the spread; and take precautionary action in the outlying communities.
In Orange County, the virus cluster in Kiryas Joel/Palm Tree, 25 percent of capacity will be allowed in houses of worship with a 10-person maximum; mass gatherings are prohibited; only essential businesses are allowed open; only takeout dining is allowed; and schools are closed with remote learning.
In the precautionary zone surrounding the cluster, houses of worship may have only 50 percent capacity; mass gatherings may have 25 people maximum, indoors and outdoors; businesses may remain open; indoor and outdoor dining may take place with a four-person maximum per table, and schools may be open with mandatory weekly testing of students and teachers/staff for in-person settings.
The same rules are in effect in the hotspot areas in Rockland County – the Spring Valley/Monsey area.
