KINGSTON – The executive director of the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Center in Kingston is lauding the Supreme Court decision that employers cannot fire LGBTQ employees based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

That six to three decision by the high court is long overdue, said Hudson Valley Center Executive Director Jeff Rindler.

“It is not something that should ever have been need be a conversation,” he said. “This goes along with every piece of rights and after the slap in the face on Friday removing those of trans experience and cutting their healthcare and not getting equal benefits, is a crime.”

Rindler said that as a result of the court decision, a person cannot be fired based on sexual orientation, but if they are, they now have legal recourse.

“Who you love or how you identify should have no impact on your employment,” said State Attorney General Leticia James.
