Pursuit involving stolen vehicle leads to three arrests

TUXEDO – A high-speed chase after a stolen GMC Envoy SUV led State Police from I-84 in New Hampton to Route 17M, Route 17 and the Thruway in Tuxedo where the vehicle was finally stopped after spike strips were deployed deflating both front tires and it crashed into two State Police vehicles.

The chase began around 2:21 a.m. on Saturday, June 6 when troopers received a report of a vehicle stolen from New York City.

When the vehicle was stopped after driving recklessly reaching speeds over 90 mph, all three occupants were taken into custody.

The driver, Hyman Goldstein, 48, of New York City, was issued 27 citations and charged with criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief, both as felonies, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and obstructing governmental administration, both as misdemeanors.

The passengers, Jessey Wright, 36, of the Bronx, and Justin Paneto, 27, of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, were both charged with criminal possession of stolen property.

All three were arraigned in Tuxedo Town Court and released pending a future court appearance.
