NEWBURGH – State Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) has fully recovered from his bout with COVID-19. “The past two weeks are the sickest I have ever felt and serve as a reminder that, no matter one’s age or underlying health, COVID-19 is a virus that ought to be taken with the utmost seriousness,” he said on Tuesday.

“Crises like the one we are living bring out the best in most people,” he said. “To that end, I’ll be forever grateful for the outpouring of support that Hillary and I received from our neighbors, friends, and constituents over the past two weeks.”

Skoufis is at least the third public official to have recovered from the virus. Newburgh City Councilwoman Ramona Monteverde and Port Jervis City Mayor Kelly Decker both contracted and survived the illness.

State Supreme Court Justice Steven Milligram of Monroe, though, died from the virus last week.
