Several apartments damaged as fire rages through Middletown apartments

MIDDLETOWN – A two-alarm fire Monday evening causes smoke, fire and water damage to six apartments at College Hill Apartments at 63 South Street in Middletown.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, heavy smoke and flames were visible.

The fire is under investigation by the Orange County Fire Investigation Unit.

Some 50 firefighters responded to the scene with two sustaining minor injuries when a second-floor ceiling fell on them. They were treated at the scene by Mobile Life Support Services. One civilian was treated for anxiety-related issues.

Middletown Fire Chief Don Luis called the firefighting effort “overall a good stop.” The fire, which was called in at 7 p.m., was brought under control by 9 p.m.

Assisting Middletown firefighters were Pocatello, Circleville, Howells, Mechanicstown and Silver Lake fire departments.
