TOWN OF FISHKILL – On Sunday night, Fishkill police responded to a report of a group of people breaking into cars on Knoll Court in White Birch Estates. A homeowner had caught one of the individuals, a juvenile, and held him for police while the remaining suspects fled.

According to Fishkill Police Lieutenant Paul Schettino, the apprehended juvenile was one of a group of at least four juveniles that were on a widespread crime spree.  “In addition to breaking into several vehicles and stealing property, the individuals were operating a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Plymouth, Connecticut.”

Responding to the call Sunday night, law enforcement from the town and village of Fishkill police departments and state police attempted to stop the suspects that fled in the car.  The pursuit evolved into a chase on Interstate 84 east where officers terminated the chase near Lime Kiln Road while the suspects continued their escape.

Lieutenant Schettino said that the investigation is being carried out by multiple agencies in New York and Connecticut.  “All of the suspects have been identified, with Fishkill PD making the only apprehension so far,” said Schettino.  That youth, a Connecticut resident, was released to his mother’s custody.

Schettino indicated that a substantial amount of stolen property has been recovered and the victims have been notified.  The stolen car has not been located yet.  The police from both the village and town of Fishkill departments have asked residents with security cameras to review their footage for additional evidence.

Residents that have possible footage of the crimes or have been a victim of a break-in are asked to call either the town police at 845-831-1110 or the village police at 845-896-9260.
