ALBANY – Following the death of Josef Neumann, one of the five people wounded in the machete attack on a Hanukkah gather in Monsey last December, State Senator David Carlucci has introduced a hate crimes domestic terrorism measure named in his memory.

Neumann died days ago, months after the attack, allegedly by Grafton Thomas of Greenwood Lake.

Carlucci said there is no place for domestic terrorism in New York or anywhere in the US.

“It’s easy to point fingers and to pass the blame. We are all in this together and we have to make sure that we do not tolerate hate in any form, and it’s just an honor to be able to name this domestic terrorism legislation that will be setting a precedent for the rest of the nation to follow and naming it after Josef Neumann. And hopefully his legacy will live on and the unfortunate circumstances that happened will shed light on the importance of having a zero tolerance policy against hate,” Carlucci said.

During the attack on a rabbi’s home, five people were wounded by the machete-wielding assailant.
