TOWN OF WALLKILL – Transitioning New York to a carbon-free electricity system is only 20 years away and State Senator Jen Metzger (D, Rosendale) said given the adoption of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, building a new Danskammer electric power plant in the Town of Newburgh is “a poor investment.”

Like the CPV plant in Wawayanda and Cricket Valley under development in Dover, Danskammer would be powered by fracked gas imported from out of state and Metzger said alternative energy sources must be developed to replace that fossil fuel energy.

“You have to follow a plan. It’s not going to magically happen and you can’t shut things down without making sure you have energy to replace it. We want and need grid reliability, so it has to be planned,” she said.

Several years ago, the governor banned the fracking of natural gas in New York and now he wants to place that in the law books, something Metzger supports.
