SAUGERTIES – Saugerties Police arrested A Town of Saugerties man on the misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property damage automobile accident.
William Nilsen, 53, was charged at around noon on Thursday after he struck another vehicle on Layfette Street in the Village of Saugerties and then left the scene. A Saugerties Police Officer working a post at the intersection of Market and Layfette Street during the July 4th Parade observed the incident and the offending vehicle flee the scene, reporting same to other officers in the area.
Nilsen was later stopped. A breath test revealed a .22 BAC, wo and a half times the legal limit. He was released to a third party.
