Car dealer employee accused of pocketing down payments

WAWAYANDA – State Police at Middletown arrested a Middletown man on June 19 after a three-month investigation into the theft of cash down payments at Nissan-Kia Middletown car dealership.

State Police were first alerted to the thefts in March 2019 after a customer realized that they had not been credited by the dealership for the full amount of their down payment.  The ensuing investigation identified several additional victims.

Michael Ramos, 34, was arrested on June 19th and charged in both the towns of Wallkill and Wawayanda with grand larceny, falsifying business records and scheme to defraud all felonies and misdemeanor possession of personal identification information.  He is in the Orange County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.

State Police are interested in speaking to anyone who feels that they may be a victim of this scheme.  Callers should contact the Middletown barracks at 845-344-5300 and ask for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
