NORTH SALEM – Firefighters from Putnam and northern Westchester battled a house fire in North Salem Wednesday.

The blaze was located in a home on Hawley Road. Croton Falls Fire Department personnel arrived and found the rear of the one-story home on fire.

Chief Jeffrey Daday sounded a general alarm for his department and summoned mutual aid from the Brewster and Mahopac Fire Departments in addition to fire companies in addition to Somers, Katonah, Bedford Hills, Goldens Bridge and South Salem.

Firefighters were forced to cut open interior and external walls in order to attack the blaze.

Tanker trucks from neighboring fire departments brought water to the scene since the area is not serviced by a municipal hydrant system.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
