Stabbing suspect arrested

POUGHKEEPSIE – A City of Poughkeepsie man has been arrested by Town of Poughkeepsie Police on felony assault charges in connection with the stabbing of another person.

Police said Richard Johnson, 29, engaged in a verbal argument around 10 p.m. on May 28 and that escalated into a physical altercation during which he allegedly stabbed the victim in the abdomen with a knife.

The victim, who sustained serious but non-fatal injuries, was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital by private vehicle.

Johnson was charged with assault and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail  $20,000 bond.
