City of Newburgh remembers late Mayor Judy Kennedy

NEWBURGH – One year ago today, on April 15, 2018, City of Newburgh Mayor Judy Kennedy passed away, surrounded by family and friends. Her passing marked the end of her second term as Mayor in the City of Newburgh.

She was first elected in 2011 and reelected in 2015.

Mayor Kennedy’s passing was mourned throughout the city that welcomed and embraced her as one of their own since her arrival in 2007.  Hundreds paid their respect at the Transition of Life Service.

Mayor Kennedy touched the lives of many and made it her mission to bring change to the City of Newburgh. To this day the city continues to reap the benefits of Mayor Kennedy’s unwavering work. Her many achievements can be seen city-wide as many new businesses continue to open and flourish throughout the City of Newburgh.

All you have to do is take a walk through Liberty Street and observe the renaissance that portion of the city continues to experience.

Mayor Kennedy’s vision continues to resonate and can be witnessed through crime reduction, the return of vacant buildings to the tax roll, and the spirit of optimism that seizes the residents of the City of Newburgh.

Her legacy of hard work, devoted service, integrity and honor will be memorialized in this year’s Newburgh Illuminated Festival through the presentation of the “Mayor Judy Kennedy Newburgh Illuminated Citizens Award.”  The festival is a project that was passionately supported by Mayor Kennedy. since amongst many things, it brings thousands of people to the City of Newburgh.“In this year of her physical absence let us continue to remember her words as we individually and collectively move forward in our own lives and with the people we meet each and every day: ‘We’ve got to help each other rise together’,” said a In a statement released by the city today.
