GOSHEN – Orange County Legislator Kevindaryan Lujan would like the county to follow the lead of Ulster and Dutchess counties and adopt a ban on single-use plastic bags.
Lujan supports a fee on the use of paper bags to go along with the plastic bag ban and he would also like to see the county move toward the use of paper straws rather than plastic ones.
“I don’t want Orange County to be the only county in the
region that’s not conscious of the environmental impact,”
he said. “We’re doing great things in Orange County as it
is so I want to make sure we are continuing to do that.”
The Green Committee of the Orange County Legislature will start the discussion on the proposals.
