Twelve-year-olds arrested for arson

CHATHAM – State Police
in Columbia County have arrested two 12-year-olds on charges of arson.

At about 5:40 p.m. on Friday, December 7, Columbia County 911 dispatched
Chatham Fire and Police personnel to a report of a brush fire at the Columbia
County Fairgrounds. Firefighters extinguished a small fire near a building.

At about 7:15 p.m., Chatham firefighters were called to a separate brush
fire at the Rite Aid Pharmacy in the Village of Chatham.

Following investigation by local and State Police and the Bureau of Criminal
Investigation from the Livingston barracks, it was determined the two
youths were responsible for setting several fires in the village that
evening.

Both juveniles were issued family court appearance tickets.
