WHITE PLAINS – Former Yonkers resident Damon Scott, 42, now living in Georgia, was sentenced in Westchester County Court to 20 years to life in state prison for the 2008 shooting death of Jerome Hancock, a Yonkers man and father of five.
Just before 5 a.m. on June 6, 2008 Scott drove a taxi up in front of Mexican Car Service in Yonkers where Hancock was waiting for a cab with a friend. Scott pointed a gun at Hancock and shot him in the chest, killing him. He sped off, dismantled the gun and disposed of it.
Scott fled to Georgia and remained at large using several aliases for almost a decade.
In 2013, Yonkers Police Cold Case Unit was assigned to the case. In 2017, Scott was apprehended on an unrelated gun possession case in Alpharetta, Georgia.
