OTISVILLE – The man who
slipped away from an Otisville residence at 7 Thursday morning when state
parole officers were coming through the front door to conduct an unannounced
inspection visit, was apprehended around 6 p.m, apparently thanks in large
part to a police K-9.
Police have not released the identity of the 20-year-old man.
Mount Hope Town Police Chief Paul Rickard said the situation began when state officers went to his residence to conduct an inspection unannounced.
“Parole officers were able to enter the house, but while doing so the person they were checking on fled out the back door,” he said.
When he took off, he ran into a wooded area leading police from several agencies on a manhunt for several hours before it was suspended. It was resumed late in the afternoon when someone spotted him running into a swampy area.
Mount Hope, State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies and state parole officers converged on the area and resumed the search with the aid of police K-9s.
The suspect was eventually caught and brought to Mount Hope Police headquarters suffering from a dog bite.
