Fatal crash reported in Hyde Park

HYDE PARK – A two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon claimed one life.  The driver of one of the vehicles, a 73-year-old man, was killed.  The other driver and a passenger in the second car were injured.
Hyde Park Police were dispatched to a report of a head-on collision shortly after 1:00 pm Friday.  Officers found the entangled vehicles in the roadway with victims trapped inside.  Firefighters from Roosevelt and Hyde Park fire departments worked to free the occupants of the two vehicles. 
The operator of a Dodge Intrepid, a 73-year-old male was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital were he succumbed to his injuries according to Hyde Park Police Chief Bob Benson. 
The victim’s name will be released pending notification of the next of kin.  All are from the area.
The occupants of the second vehicle, a Hyundai, a 43-year-old female driver and 45-year-old male passenger, both from Wappingers Falls were transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Chief Benson said that the preliminary investigation, conducted by his department with the assistance of the New York State Police has revealed that the Hyundai was traveling west on St. Andrews Road when it crossed the double-yellow line and collided with the eastbound Dodge. 
The investigation continues. No traffic tickets were issued at the scene.
