MONTICELLO – A Sullivan County Grand Jury returned indictments against two men in separate heroin distribution cases.
George Kirschbaum, 32, of Monticello, was indicted for three counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance and one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance, all felonies. Kirschbaum on three occasions in October of 2018 allegedly sold heroin to another person in the Village of Monticello. The indictment further alleges that Kirschbaum was found to possess in excess of an eighth of an ounce of heroin at his residence on Hillside Avenue in Monticello on October 29, 2018.
Kirschbaum was arrested after an investigation by the Sullivan County Sheriff, Monticello Police, Sullivan County District Attorney and Homeland Security.
If convicted of these heroin related crimes Kirschbaum faces up to 20 years in state prison. He is currently in the Sullivan County Jail awaiting arraignment next week.
In an unrelated case, Richard Mead, 45, of Livingston Manor, was indicted for one count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance one count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance on or Near School Grounds, both B felonies. The indictment alleges that Mead sold heroin to another person within one thousand feet of the Livingston Manor Central School grounds in October of 2018. If convicted Mead faces up to 9 years in state prison. Mead is currently in the Sullivan County jail and will be arraigned in County Court next week.
“My office will continue to work collaboratively with our law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute those individuals who traffic in deadly narcotics and heroin will remain a priority,” said District Attorney Jim Farrell.
