POUGHKEEPSIE – A Poughkeepsie man was arrested on Friday and charged with murder in connection with the death of his former wife on Thursday.
State Police were called to a home near All Angels Hill Road in the Town of Wappinger at around 11 p.m. where they found Terrie DeGelormo, 34, stabbed to death.
Investigation led to the arrest of Timothy Alexander, 32, on Friday.
“This was a heartbreaking tragedy, where a young mother lost her life, due to domestic violence,” said State Police Captain John Ryan.
DeGelormo had been employed with Dutchess County Community and Family Services until recently taking a position at Dutchess Community College. The victim’s husband is said to be employed by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office in the Corrections division.
Because of his employment at the Dutchess jail, he was sent to the Putnam County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call State Police at 845-677-7300. All calls can be kept confidential.
State Police were assisted by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office and the New Hackensack Fire Department.
