MONTICELLO – A 32-year-old Monticello man was arrested on Monday
following execution of an early morning no-knock search warrant at his
residence at 25 Hillside Avenue.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies seized approximately 36 grams
of heroin, packaging materials and a scale. Some of the heroin was already
packaged for sale; some was waiting to be cut and packaged. The heroin
tested positive for fentanyl.

George Kirschbaum was a distributor who supplied local dealers, said Sheriff
Michael Schiff. Thirty-six grams of heroin packaged for sale comes out
to about 1,440 bags, the sheriff said.

He was charged with three counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance,
one count of possession with intent to sell, and one count of criminal
possession of a narcotic drug, all as felonies. He was also charged with
two misdemeanor counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Kirschbaum was arraigned and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without
bail.

Schiff said he continues to work with District Attorney James Farrell
and his law enforcement partners to address the opioid crisis in Sullivan
County. “This is a multi-level approach – education for our
youth, treatment for those who are addicted and long jail sentences for
those who provide the poison to our community.”

The sheriff’s Gang and Narcotics Intelligence Unit was assisted
in the investigation by Monticello Police and Homeland Security Investigations.
If convicted, Kirschbaum faces up to 25 years in state prison on each
felony count.
