MONTICELLO – A man and woman have been arrested by Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies for allegedly assaulting and robbing an acquaintance at that individual’s home on Cold Spring Road in the Town of Thompson.
Terrell Staten, 31, of Monticello and Melissa Strain, 28, of Mongaup Valley and were arrested on Wednesday, October 10 in connection with the October 7 incident. Staten allegedly held a box cutter to the victim’s throat while Strain stole his money.
The two were spotted walking in Monticello and village police were notified while deputies interviewed the victim of the crime who said he had been afraid to report it. Monticello Police then located Strain and Staten and recovered some of the victim’s property.
Both suspects were charged with armed robbery and assault as felonies and misdemeanors of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal obstruction of breathing and petit larceny.  They are in the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail each.
In April 2017, Strain was charged with selling a food stamp benefit card for $80. She had earlier reported the card stolen to the county Department of Family Services. A confidential tip to the sheriff’s office led to her arrest on a felony charge.
