NEW YORK – Metro-North Railroad crews will be installing Positive Train Control equipment between Wassaic and Southeast from Wednesday, October 17 through Sunday, October 21. Service changes will result on the Upper Harlem Line.
Positive Train Control is a technology designed to reduce the potential for human error that can lead to train-involved accidents. It will be able to slow a fast-moving train if it does not detect operator action.
Workers will install two antenna poles and two radio boxes that are required for the operation of PTC on that branch. A fiber optic splice will be performed to allow the installation of the new equipment to communicate with the rest of the system.
In addition to making the safety upgrade, railroad crews will replace the highway grade crossing at Tenmile River Station on Sinpatch Road in Wassaic. In other areas along the branch, crews will surface track, cut brush and trees, weld joints and renew drainage ditches.
