CAMPBELL HALL- An off-duty New York City Police officer residing in Putnam Valley was killed Friday evening in a single vehicle crash in Campbell Hall.

State Police identified the victim as Juliana N. Torsiello, 25, who was a two-year veteran of the NYPD.

Troopers and firefighters were summoned shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday to County Road 51 for a report of a single-vehicle crash with entrapment.

The investigation into the accident continued for seven hours.  The Orange County Medical Examiner was on scene along with State Police and officials from the NYPD.  Throughout the night, dozens of NYPD officers arrived on scene, as did an NYPD ambulance.  Hours later, the NYPD ambulance left with dozens of NYPD cars following in a solemn procession.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that Torsiello’s 2008 BMW 328 was traveling eastbound when the vehicle lost control on a curve, exited the roadway and overturned. Torsiello was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer’s death marked the fourth time a member of the law enforcement community with ties to Putnam County has died in the past two months.

Two Brewster Police officers passed away, one while on duty and the second after suffering a medical emergency while operating his vehicle in Yorktown while a resident of Putnam Valley employed by the Westchester County Police Department was killed when his garden tractor overturned at his residence.
