The deadly crash remains under investigation
HILLSDALE – A Ghent man was killed when the motorcycle he was operating collided with a Jeep Cherokee on Route 22 at the intersection with Columbia County Route 21 in the Town of Hillsdale. The accident was reported to the 911 center at 1:43 p.m. on Friday.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said the SUV, driven by Johanna Carrita, 70, of Castleton on Hudson, was northbound on Route 22 and turned left onto County Route 21. The operator, John Cronin, Jr., 61, of Ghent, was southbound on Route 22 when it was struck by the Jeep. Cronin was ejected and died at the scene.
Carrita was transported to Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, Massachusetts for neck pain. There were no passengers in her vehicle.
The accident is under investigation by sheriff’s deputies, investigators and the Accident/Incident Investigation Unit.
