ALBANY – Two counties and two municipalities in the Hudson Valley are on the financial stress list compiled by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
Westchester County and the City of Poughkeepsie are listed as being significantly stressed while the County of Rockland and Village of Ellenville are classified as moderately financially stressed.
Susceptible to fiscal stress are the City of Yonkers, Town of Clarkstown and Village of Catskill.
“Fewer local governments are considered fiscally stressed, but those with persistent financial problems are struggling to stay out of the red and fix their problems,” said DiNapoli. “While the results may be encouraging in some areas, there are municipalities that should focus on near-term financial risk and implement more prudent long-term planning.”
