Police Chief Robert Hertman and Town Supervisor Edward Diana accept a check
from District Attorney David Hoolver on Monday

TOWN OF WALLKILL – The Town of Wallkill Police Department has a new member, “Rex,” a Belgium Shepherd that is teamed up with Officer Ian Holmes.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler contributed $4,000 toward the cost of the dog and training.
The team has already gone through basic K-9 training and will undergo advanced narcotics interdiction, said Police Chief Robert Hertman.
Town Supervisor Edward Diana plans to grow the police department even further.
“We are going to enhance the force,” Diana said. “I already told the chief for next year’s budget, I am increasing the total number of officers in this police force to 34 from 31, so that is three new officers. We have a commitment to the PBA that we will increase the amount of people that work for this great force because we have to service the people. In order to do that in a town of our size is you have to continually increase the force.”
Hoovler said people want to come to Orange County for its quality of life and that includes public safety.
