off limits to student residents at the moment

NEWBURGH – Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh has hired an industrial
hygiene firm and environmental consultant to pinpoint the cause of mold
growing in Sakac Hall, the newest dormitory on the campus.

The college said it has recently received reports from students of mold
growing, possibly caused by extreme heat and humidity over the past two
months. The school treated individual instances, but that has not totally
eradicated the problem.

As a result, “out of an abundance of caution,” the dorm was
closed on Sunday so all rooms could be checked and any issues remediated.

Students have been relocated to other locations both on and off the campus,
including area hotels.
“Our students have been, and continue to be, our top priority throughout
this process,” said College President Dr. Jason Adsit.

The school said it is unclear as to how look the investigative and remedial
process will take and students will not return to their rooms until the
process has been completed.
