POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess
County Industrial Development Agency has granted final approval for Asahishuzo
International of Japan to develop a $26.4 million sake brewery in Hyde
Park.

The IDA action will provide the project with a real property tax payment
in lieu of taxes, a mortgage tax filing exemption and sales tax exemption
on building materials.

Plans call for the facility to be located in the repurposed former Stop
and Shop store at their old location at 5 Saint Andrews Road in Hyde Park.

When up and running by next year, the facility will produce over 332,600
gallons of sake per year.

Ashahi Shuzo will collaborate with the Culinary Institute of America to
further education and awareness of sake in the United States.
