Brothers Medical Center
campus in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – Marist College and Health Quest Wednesday announced
plans to develop the Marist Health Quest School of Medicine to be located
on the campus of Vassar Brothers Medical Center in the City of Poughkeepsie.
Vassar Brothers is the flagship hospital of the Health Quest organization.

The new school is expected to help fill the shortage of physicians.

There are no MD-degree granting medical schools in New York State between
Westchester County and Albany.

Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine operates a campus in the City of
Middletown.

Plans call for a 100,000 square foot building to be constructed over a
three-year period with the first class anticipated in the summer of 2022.

The school of medicine will seek approvals from the national accrediting
body for medical education programs – the Liaison Committee on Medical
Education – as well as the New York State Education Department and
the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

“Dutchess County continues to experience growth and innovation thanks
in part to our partners Health Quest and Marist College,” said Dutchess
County Executive Marcus Molinar. “This medical school will have tremendous
impact, creating jobs, increasing the level of care for patients, and
attracting medical professionals to teach and students eager to learn.
This new investment will undoubtedly enhance what makes us a great place
to live, work, learn, and raise a family.”
