Several headstones were toppled in the older section of the cemetery

KINGSTON – For the second time this summer, Wiltwyck Rural Cemetery in Kingston has been desecrated.
It was first hit by vandals on June 17 and again now on August 22, city police said. Several headstones were damaged and toppled over in an older section of the cemetery. Many of those tombstones are irreplaceable, police said.
Cemetery management is in the process of having some of the stones returned to their original upright position, but many of the older headstones were damaged and are not able to be repaired properly, police said.
Investigators are asking the public’s assistance in identifying the perpetrators of the vandalism by calling 845-331-1671. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may use the “submit a tip” app on the Kingston Police Facebook page or leave an anonymous tip on the Kingston Tip Line at 845-331-4499. All calls and information will be kept confidential.
