POUGHKEEPSIE – As fall fast approaches, it is the time of year that municipalities begun to prepare their budgets for the following year.
In the City of Poughkeepsie, Common Council Chairwoman Ann Finney would like to take a slightly different approach to developing the spending plan.
“The finance committee is working on it and we are having extended discussions with the city about hiring, on a project basis, an analyst or accountant type, to assist during the budget process to help ensure that the common council’s participation is well informed and cogent,” Finney said.
The city administrator and mayor typically draft their proposed budget, which then goes to the common council for review and modifications.
