POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Sheriff’s Deputy/School Resource Officer Evan Traudt and Arlington High School student Angela McDevitt have been selected to receive awards from the State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association.
Traudt will be the first recipient of the John F. Cataldi, Jr. School Resource Officer of the Year award and McDevitt will receive the Youth of the Year award. They will be presented in Binghamton on Thursday, August 30.
Traudt was selected for his award based on several criteria including his overall professionalism and dedication to his role as a school resource officer. McDevitt was selected based on her courage in the face of a difficult situation this year. In February, she approached authorities with information she had about someone living in Vermont who may be panning a school shooting there.
The information made its way to her school’s SRO, Deputy Traudt, who worked with Vermont officials to determine the threat was credible and the person was arrested.
Because of both of their actions, a tragedy was averted and both have been credited with saving numerous lives, said Dutchess County Sheriff Adrian “Butch” Anderson.
