New Rochelle police officer dies from effects of 9/11

NEW ROCHELLE – City of New Rochelle Police Officer Kathleen O’Connor
died on Thursday, August 16 following a long battle with a 9/11 related
illness.

She was 56.

O’Connor began her career in January 1998 and was most recently
assigned as the warrant officer in the department’s Criminal Investigations
Division.

After the September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, O’Connor
responded to Ground Zero to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts.

She volunteered her time to help other first responders sift through the
debris piles.
