MONTICELLO – Rabies has
been confirmed in a fox found in the Village of Monticello. The Sullivan
County Department of Public Health Services reported there have been no
notifications at this time that there was human contact with the fox.
Residents are cautioned not to approach any wild animal, particularly any animal, wild or domestic, which exhibits signs of being ill. Anyone having contact with suspicious animals should contact their doctors immediately.
Reports of suspicious animals should be made to the state Department of Environmental Conservation at 845-256-3098.
There is a free rabies clinic at the Monticello Fire House on Wednesday, August 15 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If your cat or dog has not been vaccinated, it is imperative that you do so, health officials said.
Dogs in the Town of Thompson must be licensed with proof of vaccinations, Town Supervisor William Rieber, Jr. said. Licenses may be obtained from the town clerk.
