Washington’s Headquarters

NEWBURGH – City officials in Newburgh are embarking on a new effort to promote tourism with a number of initiatives.
City Manager Michael Ciaravino outlined them to the city council Monday night, saying Newburgh is a natural tourism destination.
“Whether it is our local headquarters where George Washington was situated at the latter half of the Revolutionary War or many of the other features of that we have here in the City of Newburgh and the region, we believe we are a natural to try and stimulate what we already know exists here in the City of Newburgh,” Ciaravino said.
That includes issuing a request for proposals for a developer to purchase and convert City Hall into a boutique hotel, cross-promoting Newburgh with Metro-North at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan, and lobbying to change the name of the Beacon Metro-North train station to the Newburgh-Beacon or Beacon-Newburgh train station.
Ciaravino has also invited 67 travel writers to Newburgh next month for a media tour of what the city has to offer.
