Fire damages Monticello apartment building

MONTICELLO – Fire Tuesday night at 11 Terry Lane at the Sleepy Hollow Apartments in Monticello caused major damage to the building. No injuries were reported. Firefighters were called to the scene at 8:45 p.m. for a report of smoke in the three-story complex.
Fire officials said the blaze originated at a basement level electrical connection and extended through the walls to the third floor.
The outside of the building, which was under construction, sustained major damage. There was interior damage to apartments on all three floors, officials said.
The fire was declared under control in 90 minutes.
Occupants of the apartments were being assisted by the Sullivan County Red Cross.         
The fire is being investigated by the Monticello Fire Department and investigators from the Sullivan County Bureau of Fire. The cause is considered electrical in origin.
Mutual aid manpower was called from Forestburgh and Hurleyville fire departments while Rock Hill firefighters were on standby in Monticello. Monticello Police and Mobile Medic EMS were on standby at the scene.
