POUGHKEEPSIE – Police arrested a Poughkeepsie man in that city on charges for which he was wanted in Ulster County.
Peter Wenzel, 37, was arrested on Friday evening, July 20, by members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team and the Narcotics Unit of Poughkeepsie City Police. He was wanted for heroin sales in the Town of Esopus and surrounding areas.
Wenzel was found hiding on a fire escape balcony when police were searching for him in an apartment complex. He attempted to break into a nearby apartment to escape from officers but was quickly taken into custody.
He was found in possession of heroin and fentanyl.
Police charged Wenzel on an Esopus Justice Court warrant with criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance and additional charges are expected to be filed in Poughkeepsie stemming from his arrest. He is in the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
