Ulster County Sheriff’s swift water/dive team rescued Brian Pentony
from the Esopus

SAUGERTIES – A 64-year-old New Canton, Virginia man, who was visiting
his sister in Saugerties, had to be rescued from the Esopus Monday evening
when his kayak overturned.

Tyrone Brian Pentony was spotted on the east side of the upper Esopus
near the falls by Diamond Mills in Saugerties around 6:30 Monday evening.

Officers went down to the dam to make contact with him, but due to the
current, were unable to make it to the east side of the dam on foot.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s swift water/dive team was called in
and with the use of an inflatable Zodiac boat, rescued Pentony and brought
him to Saugerties Village Beach.

He was checked out by a Diaz ambulance crew and released.

The Saugerties Police Department was assisted by the Ulster County Sheriff’s
Office Dive Unit, Saugerties Village Fire Department, Diaz Ambulance and
Ulster Hose Water Rescue.
