HUNTER – State forest rangers and local rescuers aided a hiker
who fell and slid some 40 feet from Kaaterskill Falls in the Town of Hunter
on Friday, July 6 when he became separated from a group just before 5
p.m.

Rangers said the young man disregarded warning signs and hiked off the
trail and went down a steep slope below the viewing platform.

Due to the steepness and loose debris, he fell and slid, managed to get
to the bottom of the steep slope and cross the stream to the trail.

Assistant Forest Ranger Leslie Green located him at the bottom of the
stairs and began to administer patient care.

Forest rangers and local responders arrived to attend to injuries he sustained
to his upper left leg and left arm.

Rangers packaged him in a litter and carried him out to the Route 23A
trailhead where he was turned over to Hunter EMS and transported to Columbia
Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
