New commander named for NYSP Troop K

Mazzone

ALBANY – State Police Superintendent George Beach II has promoted Captain Richard Mazzone to the rank of Major, and assigned him as the 35th Troop Commander of Troop K.  The troop, headquartered in Salt Point, includes Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties.

Major Mazzone started his law enforcement career in 1995 as a Police Officer for the Town of Saugerties Police Department.  He then transferred to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, and later the Town of Ulster Police Department.  In May of 1998, Major Mazzone joined the New York State Police, as a Trooper and was first assigned to Troop F.    

In 2004, Mazzone was promoted to Sergeant, and assigned to SP Liberty where he was later appointed to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation as an Investigator.  He rose through the ranks in various troops F in Middletown and T in Albany and Tarrytown.
Mazzone received a Bachelor’s Degree from Empire State College, is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and served in the United States Marine Corps.  Major Mazzone resides in the Hudson Valley area with his wife and two children.
