Harvey
: “We want
continuity”

NEWBURGH – Torrance Harvey, the former Newburgh councilman who was named mayor in April following the death of Mayor Judy Kennedy, has announced he will run this fall for the remaining year in the current term and next fall for a full four-year term.
Harvey, a school teacher, said the city, which is undergoing a rebirth, needs the continuity of his service.
“In the vision of Mayor Judy Kennedy, I think it is important that I run for the full four-year term next summer. We want continuity, we want to continue to move this city forward and to get the work done that is needed to revitalize the City of Newburgh, I think my leadership is important.”
Harvey will face a Democratic primary challenge in September from former Councilwoman Gay Lee, a licensed social worker. No Republican has emerged at this point for Newburgh mayor.
